I was helping a forum member this morning and came across this video and found it interesting.......maybe useful for a person who doesn't have a collet for the cartridge they are working with. This method may be faster too if someone was having to pull more than just a few rounds.

My bullet puller has had the top lip of the standard aluminium three part case holder that should feed into the extractor groove worn away so that saves me buying another and keeps the quinetics puller from the 70's operating.

Great tip. Thanks, I have the same model Frankford Arsenal bullet puller as in the video and this will be easier.

Robs, I use the same methad of pulling bullits. I would have mentioned it but I thought everyone did it that way. I would add this little tip. Drop a foam ear protector into the bullit puller and it will soften the blow to the bullit nose.

I totally agree - those collets are a P.I.A. - and that is one great idea! I just checked, and this trick also works just as well on the RCBS kinetic puller.

Just a thought... altho I've been using the shellholder method for many years..

I just put a washer in front of the collet and bang away works great and very fast.
45 cal and larger. Mines an old RCBS puller.

Well that is very good to know Tom.............................this one is a learning experience for me as I had never seen the shell holder used and now have been exposed to the light of it. I think I'll continue to use my collets even if they are somewhat of a PITA.............better than a bullet or case lodged in my forehead!!!

I think if you had a washer where the OD caught the outside and the hole let the case fit then the collet would lock everything into place when the top was tightened.
I had to pull a bunch of 45-70 because I felt the powder charge was off those cases caught on the holder li and the washer and collet held them tight.

Tom:

I guess I'm not following you on the washer. Do you have a picture of this?

I'm seeing the cartrige flying backwards out of the washer at the beginning of the forward stroke. Pics might explain better.

I have a Quenetics puller (the factory is about four small towns away from where I live, very handy), but recently bought a "house" brand from Natchez that must have been custom-made to fit a standard shellholder, and the four different collets that came with is never seem to be quite the right size, so I use the shellholder. The Quenetics puller works great with shellholders from the Lee Autoprime set, if that helps anyone.

I have two old beat up "hammer pullers". About the only thing I use them for is pulling cast pistol and jacketed pistol bullets. From the get go I used the shellholders...that three peice aluminum w/rubber band collet is a joke.. I got a handfull of them if anyone wants them.

Drop into puller & screw the cap with collet back on hold case tight.

A little over 20 years ago when I was given a start in reloading the guy gave me a puller by Gun Products Inc. It had a metal tab that had a tapered slot in it to fit a variety of shells, he also had an assortment of washers in the box. Like Tom-ADC, I liked the washer idea better than the metal tab.
It was like this,

Those inertial pullers are great. Some real creative uses here. Thanks to all.
Anyone ever had a 9mm case get stuck in a 40 when cleaning in a tumbler? or any other combination that allows a smaller case to get stuck in a larger one? Use you inertial puller to get it out with no muss or fuss.

I never understood why these kinetic bullet pullers were closed at the nose. If they were open you could hammer into some type of container and the bullet and powder would simply remain in the container, loosen the nut and pop out the shell.........easy peasy!
