I have a newly acquired Mdl 70 featherweight in .30-06 that has the rear tang screw that appears to be too short. When I look at the "hole", I can see the screw coming up from the bottom, but there is 7, maybe 8 threads I can see instead of the screw being flush with the tang. I suspect that somehow the wrong screw got installed. I took the stock off, and the one under the trigger guard is the exact same length. Anybody know what the tang screw length should be?--thanks--Shuz

Rick--Pardon my lack of understanding, but what does HTH mean?
My screw measures 1.6" from the bottom of the screw to the very top where the slot is.
Does your mdl 70 have as many threads exposed as mine?
thanx for the reply--Ray

Rick, thanks for the pictures. It appears that our screws are about the same. I'd a thought that Winchester would have put a longer screw there to eliminate the ugly "hole".
