I have a old HG mold that over its lifetime has been hit with a hard object on the sprue plate which has caused it to mushroom out and is starting to cause it not to lock up well. I was thinking about taking it to my local machine shop and have them mill off those edges. Is this the right thing to do? Is there a H&G repair center lol

I'm sure that the repair service would do the job well; their site seems extremely comprehensive and very thorough. I have had an H&G or two that had been similarly mistreated and I was able to true up the sprue plate edges with an ordinary double cut file. It is not hard to do, but takes a little patience and care. The mushrooming even if it is bad can be filed off so that it is no longer in the way of anything and the plate can swing correctly and sit level on the blocks again....as long as the plate itself is not bent. In looking at an H&G plate one would wonder how anyone could bend that amount of thickness, but I suppose that anything is possible. LLS

Send it to Erik at Hollow Point Moulds (the above suggestion).

He's successfully repaired a few of my treasured Hensley & Gibbs moulds.

The repairs were perfect in my opinion.

Very happy.
