Who has the best deals on antimony??
From what I've seen so far the going price seems to be around $20.00 per pound plus shipping.

I don't know who has the absolute best price around on it, but I'd check out Rotometals. They are one of our sponsors and have a very good reputation. They are probably one of the best places to get it. May even be the cheapest. There is a link at the top of the page.

What about magnum shot? Doesn't that have a fairly high anitmony content? I've seen 25 pound bags of that sell for 40 dollars....less than 50 cents per pound.

it is much easier to start with a high antimony alloy and mix it in than to start with pure antimony and get it to alloy with typical smelting setups. Antimony melts at a much higher temp (nearly 1200 F) than lead and typically is best alloyed by holding it to the bottom of the pot in order to get the most heat directly to it. If you can use Rotometals' Super Hard alloy at 30% antimony to 70% lead to make whatever alloy you wish, you'll save yourself considerable headache.

Yep, Roto metals Super Hard. It's 30% antimony - 70% lead and it is for adding antimony to your alloy without the hassles and dangers of dealing with antimony in its raw state. It melts & blends in easily with your alloy at 550 degrees.

Here are some ideas on what to do with Super Hard.

Years before roto became a sponsor here, I ran a group buy for an enrichment alloy and it was found that the highest ratio alloy that could reasonably be expected to work was 47% Antimony, 37% lead, 18% Tin. The alloy I had made was made with arsenical lead so it contained about 1/2 of 1% arsenic as well.

The 3:1 anmtimony to tin ratio just seems to be a magic number in most all popular or useable alloys.
My 9-27-64 pours really pretty ingots.
