The time is finally here. :guntootsmiley:

I have the rifle and will fire some jacketed rounds through it first. But looking for some help with the 358009. The powders I have on Hand are IMR-3031,IMR-4350,RL-15 and TAC.

Thank You one and all.

I have used RL-15 and IMR 4320 with that bullet, but thus afr haven't gotten good accuracy from mine with any combos I've tried. Mines a Remington 700, and I'm told, but haven't checked, that it has a slower twist rate than others so that heavy a bullet may not be optimal.

Seems like RL 15 and IMR 3031 ought to be good powders for the Whelen. I would think IMR 4064 would be good too.

Rich it all depends on who you ask. But many say that the twist rate of the Remington 700 which is a 1-16 twist is too slow for the over 250Gr bullets.

But what have you sized yours at? maybe if you sized them larger say .359 or .360 it would help.

Try Steves Pages. His data for the 275 gr bullet should work nicely for the 358009. He lists 3031& RL15.

I've been sizing to .359. The rifle really hasn't shot other bullets any better though. I haven't really worked with it a lot yet, however. I may try Blammer's load of IMR4895 next, I know I have some around.

That should read 280gr not 180gr boolit.

There's actually a custom Whelen bult on a '03 Springfield available locally here. Much heavier than my 700 (which may actually be an advantage). Have been strongly contemplating trading off the 700 for this one. I'm a Model 70 Winchester fan and genearlly never found 700s that appealing.

In all fairness, I haven't really given this 700 a chance yet, but I expected it to shoot well right off the bat.
