View Full Version : Sourcing parts for PID controller

I am in the process of sourcing parts to build a PID controller. I would like to be able to disconnect the probe from the control box for storage. Like this one.

It is my thought to be able to leave the probe in the lead as it cools. This way I can watch the temp in the next session as it heats up. I am looking for the female wall thru connector that the probe would plug into. I am not sure what the proper name is so I am unable to search for it. Does anyone know where I can find one?
Thanks,
Jim

Its called a panel mount for a K type thermocouple. Auber Instruments has them. Auberins.com Maybe this link will work. http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=119&zenid=ad22290c1184ffec806e3d0cf77108ca

coyotebait, Thanks for the link. I ordered the parts.
I will try to take pictures of the build and post a How I Did It when I am done.

the whole process of building my own PID controller is soooo above my head.

kind of like the build directions for an EDM homebuild

In a previous discussion about PIDs, someone posted this wiring diagram.

I figure I will work slowly and do one thing at a time.

I built a dual PID controller from Auber parts. It's not all that hard to wire up. I used the model that requires an external relay. I put mine in a home made case for protection. My BIL also built one and just mounted everything on a piece of plywood "breadboard fashion". Mine is better protected, his is a lot easier to service, both work fine.

Lots of folks here will help if someone tries to build one and runs into problems.
