Back when I lived in fox squirrel country, I used a method that worked fairly well. Using the blade of the knife, and my thumb, I would pluck the hair across the center of the back, about an inch wide, and a couple inches across. I would then make a slit across the squirrel, maybe an inch and a half long. I could then put a forefinger from each hand into the slit, and pull the skin in both directions. Cut off the head, and the feet, and that was it.
It's been thirty years since I did any, so may have forgotten somethig along the way. I seem to remember, this method left the least hair on the carcass.

The picture of the giant squirrel recalls some friends down in the Three Forks country. They have a "hunting" album they have made up over the years. When they would see a road kill deer or elk, or a dead bloated cow or horse, they would get out a rifle, and take "hunting" pictures with what ever was dead. I'm surprised they never had a problem along the interstate doing this, but never heard of it. Kinda funny really, seeing a smeared deer, with semis and cars going by in the background.
They told me it is thier statement against magnum rifles.
