The time is finally here. :bigsmyl2:

I have the rifle and will fire some jacketed rounds through it first. But looking for some help with the 358009. The powders I have on Hand are IMR-3031,IMR-4350,RL-15 and TAC.

Thank You one and all.

I just wish I could fit that Boolit in my Whelen, the nose is just too big for my lands though. I had some ok groups using RL-15 with the 358097, my rifle liked 37grs best and that pushed em about 1800fps got a 2" 5 shot group @ 100 yds with an unaccurized Ruger no. 1. I'll be trying some 3031 next but with different Boolits from a BRP mold, the RL-15 didn't have complete burn at the pressures I was running with the 358097. It looked like unburnt kernels in the bore but upon swabbing I never actually saw any on my patches so not too sure what the little specks left in the bore were. I also pushed some full length gas checked sierra 225gr at 2500 with RL-15 and it burnt very clean at those levels. Hope the development goes well I'll be watching this for tips as I haven't had been able to experiment too much with my Whelen.

Forgot to say I was lubing with Carnauba Red! No leading!

Plinkster since you brought up the Sierra 225Gr here is something for you. Sorry for the bad pictures and all the holes lol. But my Friend up in Utah said it was a little rough just to get down to where the targets are through all the snow lol. But it does show just how well that ole 35 Whelen can do even if they are J word bullets for now. But I think 1/2 inch more or less groups or so is not that bad. These were moving along at 2800 FPS but please remember this is at 5300 feet of altitude.

I did a whole Shabang on the rifle here lol. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=103316&highlight=Whelen

I will be using BAC for a lube. As for the RL-15 powder I heard from 357maximum that a person really needs a Mag primer for that powder for a complete burn.

WoW I guess this is just the wrong time of year to ask about a Pea Shooter lol.

Ah, I may have to try the magnum primers with the rl-15 then I was wondering if that might help but figured I'd try some other powders before I got into those other variables. Thanks for the tip!

I have a .35 Whelen with a 1:12 twist, and the load I've been using for years is 48g of AA4064,Rem 9-1/2 primer and Rem cases. The 358009 I use is Bhn 22, and this load pushes it out of my bbl at 2150 fps with 1" to 1-1/2 inch groups of 3 shots at 100yds. This load has accounted for 2 bull moose and 1 bull elk down thru the years. I worked this load up starting with AA4064 as my powder of choice, and never tried any other. Perhaps your powders will give you equal or better results, but you may wanna consider 4064. Good luck!

Jester - Just saw your post. If I don't forget (the age thing is catching up with me), I will check my records tonight for my loads with this boolit.
