Was wondering if one of you guys could rattle off all the different 6.5mm cartridges that are available in the Contender format?

Thanks,

Jim

6.5 TCU
6.5 Bullberry
6.5 Bulblerry Improved

6.5 Super Bowers

Most famous 6.5 JDJ

There was going to be a 6.5 Bellm, but the two that were developing the Bellm cartridge line never got to this one

And likely many more.

I am hoping to find either (or both) my 10" or 14 inch 6.5 TCU cast friendly for plinking, practice purposes with the 120 gr. PB GB boolit.

6.5 JDJ is scary accurate with j word loads, have not tried cast yet. I also am looking for a 6.5 tcu to go along with my 6 & 7 m/m bbls. The 7 m/m tcu is a very good cast shooter, so might be a good second choice. Pp'ed lee 130s show alot of promise in mine.

6.5 BRM by EABCO, 219 DW necked up to 6.5mm. Looks to have ideal case capacity for a 14" or 15" barrel.

I have both the 10" and 14" 6.5 TCU barrels. Both are 1 in 9" twist.

Haven't done much with either yet but if I get the 1 in 9 to shoot well it will be with cast.

What twist does the 6 have?

cbrick, the 6 m/m tcu is a 1 in 10. It does very well with 85/87 gr & seems to really like the nosler 70 gr, like you I have not tried cast yet, no mould. It's pure hell on crows with the noslers. Pm sent about the 6.5 bbls.

Mike, its not that I haven't "tried cast yet", I haven't fired a full length gas check in 25 years or more. When I get to work up loads with these barrels it will be with cast. I've had these 6.5 barrels for a few years now, its just that I've had so many irons in the fire I haven't spent much time with them. Yet!

I can believe the 6.5 JDJ is every bit as accurate as you say, I used a 270 JDJ in Handgun Silhouette for a few years and the accuracy of that barrel was amazing.

OOPS, should have known you had tried cast. Even the fire form loads with rem 120 gr bulk bullets are scary. It does seen that about the third loading is where things really tighten up. Been asked not to bring it when bubba's trying to get ready for bambi, lol. Seems to upset them when a short gun outshoots them.:hijack:
And I know all about to many irons in the fire, just never seems to end.

This cartridge is the absolute bees knees it seems and punches way above it's weight. It is rimmed which is an advantage in a break action, 30/30 cases are everywhere and cheap. whats no to like?

About 10 years ago I had a 6.5-30/30 carbine barrel from JD Jones, and that thing was deadly accurate. 1/2-1" @100 yds was easily achieved with a wide range of components, it was a very reloader-friendly platform. My favorite load was a 120-grain pill at around 2700 fps, very low recoiling, and the 2-3 whitetails I shot with it went down like they were pole-axed, DRT. Like four fingers says, this caliber seems to deliver a punch way above its weight, it's a very efficient and accurate bore size, and perfect for the modest strength of the Contender action.
