I've seen a few home made tools that work on the principal of this commercial made one. This is the one I use, and I think it is the best. http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/p/9/pid/25534/catid/24/CCW_Moon_Clip_Loading__Unloading_Tool__45ACP

I have two inexpensive demooners. The first is a knurrled piece of hollow tubing that has 1/2 of the diamater of the tubing cut off the bottom. The tube is slipped over the case with the lip on the outside of the moon clip. You just twist the tubing either way and the case pops out. The other is a piece of flat steel with a U bent into it near the short end. On the bottom edge of the tool just past the U is a teat slightly smaller than the spacer between the slots on the moon clip. You just slide teh u over the fired case, the teat lines up with the steel on the moon clip and lever the case out with the handle end of the tool. It works very well and very fast. NO strain on your fingers since you are levering against the steel of the clip. No idea who madeit I got it out of a bin at a gun show for a few dollars and with I had bouth 3-4 more.

I use a regular 2" leather belt but that's just personal preference. I'd expect a good pair of suspenders to work just as well. :bigsmyl2: [smilie=l:

Back in the early 90's when I had a S&W Model 25-2, Brownell's sold a tool like thumbcocker described, only it had a srewdriver handle on it. I made my own with a short section of 1/2" hard copper with a cap soldered on. Cut the lip, and twist the empties out of the full moon clips.

I never tried the design with half-moon clips, I didn't have any.

Been using a piece of correct diameter PVC pipe for about 10 years now. Just grind one side down about 1/2" for maybe 1/3 the diameter, works great & you can do it in about 30 seconds. I make mine about 6-7 inches long & they will hold all six empties. I do the same thing with my 40 caliber revolvers.

Made this simple one 20 some years ago out of copper tubing and a tee. It will hold three empties. I find it easier on the hands and fingers to squeeze three loaded ones back in with brass in place on the opposite side.

Never could get the hang of half moons, as they bend out of shape on me too easy.

Well I guess I cheated and bought one for a full $5 on Midway. I also bought the moon clip loader from Dillon. It wasn't quite so cheap, $40. In my little world I don't plan ahead very well or have time to load moon clips before going to the range. The time and thumb pain saved by the Dillon loader was well worth the price. That and I cut the tar out of my right thumb loading moon clips for the first time.
I think I might agree with Shotman if he's talking about the easy load plastic ones. That would be the smartest but I already have a bazillion metal ones.

For full moons, I allways used a little screw driver to pry the empties off the clip. I would pry the first one off using the second case and then go around the clip. But I would have to pull the last one with my fingers though.

I'll have to make a tubular one sometime.

A broken off golf club shaft makes a perfect demooner. Crappy cell pics:

Not me. I hate stickys. The first half a page on some forums is nothing but the damned things.

I made one of plastic, similar to Combat Diver's, but with a cap on the end and long enough to hold six cases.

imashooter2, that's the best use, yet, for a golf club.

I love golf. I find it very similar to shooting in both the nature of the game and its therapeutic results on my psyche.

Get a broken shaft by stopping into your local course and asking in the pro shop. Most courses do repairs and they'll have a few in the shop trash.

imashooter2, I meant that facetiously, as I am not a golfer.

Made mine almost 20 yrs ago out of 1/2" PVC and I cobbed the wooden handle out of something, maybe a hunk of closet pole?

I did that for first 6 months then went looking for a tool - and yes, I agree some nice creative tool makers on here.
