Hi Forum,,,newb here, soon to be casting/smelting. Accumulating lead at present time. Over the course of the past couple weeks, a friend turned me onto this site and ive learned so much, thanks for everyone who contributes..Ok. so far ive gathered 3/4full 5 gallon pail of ww's (still weeding thru them), 50 lbs of old duck decoy weights, 30 or so pounds of crusty old plumbers lead..I need to ask you experts about "coated scuba weights" Someone has offered to sell me approx 40 lbs of them. Is the coating something i can cut off (vinyl??) can i expect pure lead underneath? any tips appreciated and thanks again for all the great advice on this site for us newbies...

scuba weights have been made from any heavy metal.

you can weigh them for proper weight, the moulds for them are pretty accurate for lead weight.

i use alot of scuba weight, i smelt them individually in case any one is zink contaminated.

i just smelt with the coating on, it burns off fast, and is near impossible to remove.
