just got back. picked up a 98k bod 44. has laminated stock. barrel, reciver, barrel bands and bolt body match. the floor plate is stamped and does not match. the nazi marks are marked out. i am thinking capture or used by israil. had to pay $200.
got a 03a3 stock cut and the front reciver ring drilled and tapped for a scope. got scope and mounts too. had to pay $200 for that one too. i think that the action was worth that to play with.

You did not do terribly bad either way. The 98k with peened out firing proofs and WaA's is likely an eastern european import - they are the only ones I ever encountered with all the proofs peened like that and not rebuilt.
The 03/ 03A3.... I can only say it is one of my least favorite type of military bolt rifles ever.

That's "b c d 44", it's the WW2 German ordnance code for Gustloffwerke in Weimar.
Peened markings/proofs indicate a Balkan rework: If all Knot-zee party markings are hammed-to-heck/obliterated, it passed-thru post-war Romania. If only the swaztika(s) in the firing proof(s) is/are neatly peened, it indicates a Serbian refurb.
The Israelis could care less about them silly lil' German marks - & have never seen an Izzy rework that had any original German markings altered.
Decent price there, amigo .....

yes it is a c . the eagle in front of the code on the reciver ring is neatly struck out. so i guess it is a serbian. thanks for the info.

Good catch with the '03a3. By far my favorite military bolt rifle.
