All the lead I got today used to belong to the guys grandfather, who was a plumber. This above piece weighs about 10lbs. When you drop it on the concrete is has a definate ring, but still dents a little.

The piece above, I know its a bad pic and angle, but it is shaped like some of the solder bars I have seen on this sight.

Also got a roll of solder that I didnt take a pic of. It is a 50lb roll, very easily bends, tried melting some on my hotplate in a small cast iron skillet. Took forever to melt, but the hotplate is old and doesnt glow on high. It did melt and turned purple. Any ideas if they used to use pure lead solder in plumbing? Just need a little help in identifying. Thanks all, Tom

I would say the one on the right is a bar solder. My brother's use something similar in the coal mines to connect battteries for equipment.I was given some and it was 63/37,if I remember correctly. The one on the left---I don't have a clue.

the blocks in my best gueuss would be heavy radiation sheilding ! There is a company in Canada that makes cast/ extruded pieces quite similar for that very purpose ? Just my oppinion , For what it is worth .

The blocks could be shielding, but are usually soft. The ring means tin or antimony(hard). If it's fairly light for it's size, could be tin base babbit(sometimes 80%). If it's heavy, hard and rings, could be linotype(but that's not a standard shape). Pure lead wire is used for lead joining of lead acid tanks(sometimes very dull grey or white with corrosion). The tin in 50/50 , 63/37 usually slows corrosion.

I'm gonna take all three things to the scrapyard and have them test shoot it. Not until next week though. I'll post their results.
