Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had any info on this mold? How close to the original HG#68 is it? Thanks!

Hi,
Well I'm not getting much response on this so I e-mailed Tom at accurate molds and asked him I'll see what I get. I am presently using a Lee six cavity for this bullet but as I use a lot of it I might want to get a better mold! Thanks!

Tom will get back with you shortly he has great service. Also BRP or BABore on the forum here also makes quality molds. He can put you together a 5 cavity mold of this exact design if you like. He too has excellent customer service.

Hi,
Thanks Rob,it seems things have changed in the past few years! I have heard that the original H&G #68 was a better design than the various clones and was looking to get a new mold of that exact dimensions! Thanks again!

The one that BABore has is designed by our very own 45 2.1 so if by clone it's more than likely dead on exactly the same as the #68.

There is also a re-run of the Mihec H&G68 that appears to be getting started, the wait would no doubt be longer than the wait with one of the more one-off mold designers though.

giant - I have an original H&G 68 and two of the clones. In my experience, the clones shoot just as well as the orig. The Lee does have a slight bevel base, which I'm not a big fan of, but it does shoot well. enjoy Mike

Thanks Gentlemen,
Yes I knew about the Mihec Group buy and they are really nice looking molds but to be honest I would rather support someone here in the U.S! I'm not going to go off on a tangent but we still make the best products in the world... If we want to!
I still have not heard from Tom at Accurate mold on my E-mail. One thing I was thinking about is a 4 cavity with 2 of the H&G #68 and 2 of the 10mm 170 gr. This would be one mold that would take care of all my auto needs as I have a nice RCBS mold for 9MM already. I have never used a brass mold and I'm sort of curious about those??? Thanks again!

Accurate Molds only makes 3 cavity molds so on the out there if you are after a four cavity mold and I believe Mountain Molds is the same being a 3 cavity maximum. The only mold maker I can think of off hand that might put out a 4 cavity multiple design with the requirements you are looking for would be Veral at LBT. Bruce at BRP molds could get you close but not perfect; you might see if he as a cherry lying around and not up on his site for that 170 grain class 40 cal.

Mihec 401-165. Solids make an uber nice 170gr RNFP. I size to .402 and lube with Carnuba Red.

Hi,
Well.. I've e-mailed accurate molds and called BABore and left a message today and no return call, no e-mail! Either these guys are busy or they split for Mexico to catch some rays! Ha!

I responded to your email yesterday... maybe I'm stuck in your spam filter? My #45-200H is dimensioned from an original H&G 68. The front band shoulder on mine is not quite as square as the original due to tooling limitations. A square shoulder makes difficult mold release, and I use tooling that requires at least 30 deg bevel.

I am gearing up to produce four cavity molds soon.

Thanks Tom,
How soon is soon? I'm thinking of a split mold between the H&G 68 and the 10mm 170 TC. Thanks again!

It is a matter of days, not months.

I'm sure most of you have seen this pic of boolits from my two H&G #68 molds... The left boolit is from my 1930's pre Gibbs, Geo Hensley mold. The boolit on the right is from my H&G SanDiego mold...40's 50's ish... I too was amazed at the difference, but they both shoot and function the same. Clearly we are splitting hairs with variations..
These two boolits are technically the same...but yet totally different

Thanks Z,
Now stick a LEE 45-200 beside those and you'll see what I'm talking about!
