I have read four (4) different books for a 200 gr. plated projectile. Flat point.

The maximum load with Bullseye runs from 5.7 to 6 grs.

Why the descrepancies.

not to mention that over the years they have reduced the max loads because of liability.

Brass, primers and C.O.L.
Perhaps bullets. Some odd ones out there. Like a 185 grain H&G 130 sets in the case deeper than a 200 grain H&G 68 so it takes less powder than the heavier bullet.

It's like this for every caliber, in every manual. If you find two exactly alike, someones been copying other companies reloading data.

No 2 guns/barrels are alike and no 2 lots of powder are alike, there are also differences in primers.

Always work up loads that are safe in your gun with your combination of components. There is no easy short cut when determining maximum loads. What is safe in one gun may blow up yours...

Also, when you change lots of powder or any other component, reduce your max load by 10% and work back up.

WHAT discrepancy? Those two loads are 5% apart, and that is within the variability range one might expect.

Most definately correct. The differences are well within lot to lot variences of powder, primers, cases, bullets, pressure test barrels, pressure test equipment and the conditions under which the test was conducted. A lot of variables so a 5% varience means nothing.

That's why the manuals also tell you to start low and work up for your particular firearm with your particular componants. The manuals do not tell you to go to the max load without working up because it is safe. Doing so can be a poor assumption on anyones part.

Lyman manual ,located under the heading, why ballistitians get grey!

1 example, iirc,is 2 identical revolvers, thinking they are close no.s were very different with the same load.something like 1 being 50fps over spec and 1 75under. Also 4"bbls out running 6"bbls.

That's in the Speer manual, not Lyman.

I am actually surprised that four loading manuals are so close. Sometimes when I am looking up a load one or more manuals will be grossly different from the others.
