I would suggest that the majority use the 31141 flatnose as it was designed for the 30-30.

I've both, and usually use the 311-041. First, I have a Savage and a Theodore Roosevelt commemorative carbine that have short throats. My other three 30-30s can use either, but those two don't work well with the fatter boolit. Rounds loaded with the 041 can be used in any of my guns, while the 291 is more problematic. Secondly, I have a 4 cavity Ideal 311-041that lets me crank out lots of boolits quickly. For a while I was going through over 400 a month, while working full time plus. Being able to cast a months worth of boolits in a couple of hours was pretty nifty.

I have in the past used a pile of Lyman 311041 flat point and hollow point . Also used a bunch of the RCBS 30-150GC , the Saeco 30-150GC .

But the one I certainly shot the most of was the Ranch Dog 311-165GC !
I shot better then a 1,000 of them at lever silhouette , maybe another 500 at paper targets . I tried this bullet in Marlin 30-30's both ballard and Nicro Groove rifles guns with satisfying results in both !
Also tried them in a friends old pre 64 WIN 1894 and they did okay there as well !

I had a Savage 1899 30-30 but sadly I got rid of it before I go the RD mold !

The Ranchdog 311-165 is good, i shot a bunch of lee 170's. but the RD comes out on top.
