Anyone have an idea who made this tang sight? There is not a marking on it.

That looks like one of the Pedersoli sights check their website, also Dixie shows one like that.

It isn't a Pedersoli sight ... guaranteed.
The small screw in the middle of the base holds the staff spring. It is similar to one I saw on eBay a few weeks back.
It was the base only, and the seller said it was made by MVA.
But, the bases shown on the MVA website all have springs on top of the base ... not underneath like this one.

I don't know who made it, but it looks like a good unit.
Is it certain that it isn't the sight made by Browning for the Highwalls?

the spring underneath is for a Ballard, that said I haven't a clue who made it, looks well made tho

After thinking about it, I wonder if it is one of the sights Tony Legeose made years ago. He would make several, then engrave the graduations on a batch at the same time. I remember watching him doing layout and engraving on them several times. He may have had some in the shop when he died, that got sold off.

CM,

It's definitely not the sight Browning or Winchester uses on their High Wall BPCRs. Following is their sight.

Here is that sight base I saw on eBay a while back.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Sharps-rifle-tang-sight-base-Montana-Vintage-Arms-/280661528842?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4158bb110a

The thickness of the base, the bevel around the upper edge, and the hidden staff spring with the visible screw make this base very much like the mystery sight.
The 'mystery' is definitely for a Winchester, and the eBay base is for a Sharps.
Otherwise, they have much in common.

But, as you can see, the person who originally owned the base thought it was from MVA.
I am unable to determine if that's true, or not. But the windage drums on MVA Soules don't look like the 'mystery' sight.

carcano I haven't shot this sight alot, but what I have done with it I'm pretty happy. It'll get a work out next month with two matches back to back and a goodly amount of piddledinkin in between.

That rifle probably will shoot if you feed it something it likes. Littlejack has made his shoot pretty good. I had one in 38-55 that worked pretty fair.

used to be a sight made in eastern europe, called "Parts Unknown". MVA sold them, and I think Track Of The Wolf. I never handled one but there Hallmark was no manufactures marks of any kind. DR

Those Ukranian sights are back now under the Red River label. They are redesigned in a few key places.

If Carmen ever sold any, they would have been a trade in from some one upgrading to her sights.

I don't mean that to sound like there is anything wrong with the PU sights!

Rick I was refering to Dranger's psot about MVA selling Parts Unknown sights, JC never had much nice to say about them let alone sell them. I have shot Silhouette with him for 10 or 11 years now you never saw any of those sights on his table or cases. NEVER.

I do not ever recall Carman selling them at any matches I attended and she was there.

KW

I owned one set of them not a bad sight for the price but Detent issues that I had to repair, and a couple of other things, it was sold at a considerable loss a year later.

One thing that sight had-the Borchardt model which is what I owned was the center elevator and no chance to damage a fragle outside screw, was adjustable in .001 and It was really nice for that.

Im shure what you ment to say was " Sir, you must be mistaken, I dont belive anyone Im associated has ever sold such a sight." but with your diminished capasity you could only spare enough air for short sentances. DR
