I'm very pleased with the little surprise in my mailbox today. I got my custom made mold from Mountain Mold and can't wait to try it out. It was a joy drawing this out and seeing the results in draft form but even better still is the actual product. Its a 170 gr with Keith written on it.:) All bands the same width as I wanted and it's a pleasurer to look at.

Dan did a great job and helped me out with the nose in that originally I had specs for it a bit too long but with his recommendation that was changed and I think it looks purdy good. My hands are wanting to put this baby in some Lee handles and fire up the pot!

That's a fine looking mold.

What will you be shooting those in ?

That is a great finish on the cavities. I have a few of Dan's molds myself. I had him make me a 200 gr. RFN, and it's a great boolit.

Great job on the pictures, too. That is mold porn rightther itis!

Primarily my GP100-one fine shooting revolver.

I'm chomping at the bits to try it out but working 4/10 hour days doesn't leave much time during the week. I can wait till my day off (Friday) I guess...reluctantly. I've got the lee 358-158 FN and it makes some pretty nice bullets as well only in 158 gr. I'll post some pics of my first bullets with this new one this weekend.

Rather than start a new thread I thought it would be best to just continue here. I cast a couple hundred of these today with the equivalent of Lyman #2 from the new mold from Dan. Other than a very slight circle around the nose it's near perfect. Not that it detracts from the looks, design and function of the bullet, of course. It'll be next weekend before I can try them out but it cast great and what really surprise me was the consistency of the weight. After cooling, I got out my Frankfurt Arsenal scale and they weighed from 172.2 to 172-8 grs. I do like that generous grease groove.

I don't think I'll even have to weigh and segregate by weight with a small range like that-just size, load and shoot. Very happy about the outcome. they actually look more sharp than shown-it was just handheld outside on a overcast day and 125 at f8 won't give the greatest sharpness up that close with a macro lens hand held.

Man those are some GORGEOUS boolits right there. Way to go David. Makes me sad I got rid of my Ruger BH 357..

You can always go to GunsAmerica or Cabela's and get yourself a M29 with barrel length of your choice...go ahead, make your day.:)

They did turn out pretty decent and as I mentioned, I'm surprise in the consistency of the weight differential. I won't even have to cull them!

What was I thinking about, M29? Must have had that on the brain.[smilie=1:

ColColt :

There appears to be some rings on the nose of the bullet just ahead of the front drive band. Are those rings there for a reason ?

Nope-none that I know of. Apparently if you look at the photos it goes right across the vent line in the pictures of the mold at the top. Evidently the computer continued when it should have stopped. I don't think it'll hurt a thing, however.
