Im looking for a 300 gr cast load that will work in my marlin lever gun. Im using the Lee mold. I want to try using this as a pig load. Ill be seating them out far enough so that they cant be used in any revolvers. if they work well I may try short range silhouettes with them also. Id like to push them out at around 1200fps but all the data Ive found is for pistol and tops out at 900fps. am I just looking in the wrong places or is that just too hot? what do youall think? DR

I don't use a 300 gr bullet but if you can find a group buy mould for sale for Cayoots kinda heavy flat nose that goes around 290 get it. That bullet works extremely well in both my Marlin and my Blackhawk.
I run this bullet with 10.5 gr of AA5 and it gives me around 1200 in the rifle and 900 in the handgun. This load shoots very well to 100 yards in the rifle and hits hard. It is the load I use for hunting with this rifle.

I have loaded the LEE 452-300-RF, RCBS 45-300-SWC, and the RCBS 45-270-SAA over 13 grains of HS 6 with excellent results in my Marlin 45 Colt. I get about 1300-1350 FPS with all of them. The same loads in my revolvers do about 950-1000 FPS.

Lil'Gun will work good with the Lee, too.

Lil gun will get me there but all I see are loads for jacketed bullits. have you tried any cast loads? these have a gas check, should I be treating them as jacked ? DR

I think of Lilgun as a powder for top end loads, not a load in the velocity range you spoke of. If I wanted to drive a 300 gr bullet over 1300 I would use H110 or Lilgun. The velocity window you mentioned is very well served by the med to med slow burning pistol powders.
I have driven a 260wfn at over 1600 in my Marlin but have since decided that a 300 gr or so bullet at 1200 to 1300 will work very well for most situations.

I loaded up a bunch with 16.9 gr. of Lil Gun and shot them out of my Ruger Black Hawk... They shot well, but I ran out of powder...can't load anymore until I go to the "BIG CITY."

Unique is the powder for the .45 Colt in the light loads you want.
Accurate #9 and H110 will give you several hundred FPS more in a rifle.
Be ready for the recoil.
Cast boolits will generally go faster than jacketed with the same powder charge due to less resistance of the lead boolit softness. Then you have to pay more attention to the boolit size and alloy and use a good lube.

I use Unque but have found that Red Dot is a better choice in the .45 Colt as the powder is fluffier by about 1/3...

I shot the LEE 300 grainer over 18.5 grains of 2400 when I was killing pigs as a feral animal removal technician.
Load clocks at 1450FPS from the 16" barrel of my win 94 trapper.
I killed 2 pigs with one shot on accident with that load a few years ago on a hunt in Texas.
It just whallops the bejezus out of whatever you hit with it.

I have been using 15.1grs of 2400 in my 92 24" barrel with a lee 300gr RNFP and I am getting about 1200 to 1300fps and am hitting 32oz Gatorade bottle at 100. Recoil is a gentle push. I tried 18.5 grs of 2400 and the recoil jumped considerably.

I loaded some with 17gr of Lil Gun, and will load some with 2400 to compare. should get some results this weekend. DR
