Hi All...wintertime casting continues...these are from an ANCIENT Lyman hollow point mold # 429421..old,old mold..a work of art itself...has that OLD TIME CARBONA BLUE..mold cast flawlessly..two or three initial casts to get it up to temp. and it cranks 'em out like this all day...I can hold the weight tolerance to 225grains to 226 grains with Lyman #2 alloy...size 'em to .431 for my blackhawks & S&W's ..beeswax/alox lube...25grains WW296 cci 350 clock 1400+ fps in the blkhwk's and 1575fps in a 1975 8/3/8" S&W 29.....muzzle blast and recoil are fierce...but hey..this is a serious hunting load that will reach out and swat 'em down...

Pete:

Beautiful bullets !

I am also a fan of the 429421 HP and my old Ideal is one of my favorites.

Did these come out of the mould you just recently acquired?

VERY nice! That IS an old mould, you don't see that style of crimp groove very often. Enjoy hunting with that bullet.

The old Ideals are true gems and normally found with very generous dimensions.

My .44s get more of the 429421HPs than any other bullet.

YOu got a good mould there./beagle

Congratulations on your new mould!
I too have an old Ideal 429421HP thanks to the generosity of one of the members of this board. FWIW, mine has a round grease groove and a smaller crimping groove. The weight with the original pin is 230g using ww+1% tin. With a shorter pin, I'm able to get 240g boolits from the same alloy. I get really nice groups with this boolit and 8.6g of Green Dot. Too bad Lyman has discontinued the HP option with the 429421.
