Went to a smaller gun show today. Saw what was marked as a Schmidt Rueben Model 1911 Carbine with a price tag of over $1500 and marked Collector's Item on the tag as well. I must be missing something here as everything I have read about them was they were very well made military rifles but nothing that was collectible. All the info I can find on them is that they are worth about $300-$450 depending on condition. Am I missing something here?

have never seen a 1911 carbine, have several of the rifles though.

1911 carbine is a great rifle, but not in that price range. As you said, typically $3-400.
I think that seller will have it for a long time.

The 1911 carbine is better known as the K11. It would have to be sooper special to be worth that.

Of course, that assumes it was a K11. I saw an 1889 Schmidt-Rubin at a gun show marked "Model 31 Sniper" and priced at $2500 once ... needless to say I laughed at the clowns trying to pass it off as a K31 sniper.

That is kind of like a friend came running to me and said there is a man with a M1 Garand Tanker and wants $1800 for it on trade for a Colt 1st generation SAA he had will you look at it? So I go look and right there on the rear of the receiver was 30 Cal M1 Century Arms, thought I was going to get beat up when I giggled so hard I almost chocked and said I wouldn't give him more than $200 and then only if he let me test it as it was a butcher job on whoever cut it down. Some of the folks at a gun show are looking to find a sucker and a easy buck.

The 96/11 and 1911 long rifles shoot really well, usually better than the K31 rifles. The 1911 Carbines shoot well, but usually not as well as the K31 rifles.

Heck, I have a K11 in .308, missing the front sight. You can have it for $450 shipped.

Thanks All. I figured this was another example of buyer beware. It always seems that any rifle over 30 years old is a collector's item if it is on a dealers table. But if you or I own it, it is not worth squat.

Same old story. I once saw a gun on a dealer's table in FL that was tagged "mint" and it would have had trouble making NRA "good". Caveat Emptor is still good advice more than 2000 years on.

I've owned 6 or 7 of the 1911 carbines, more than I have owned K-31 carbines. Still have 2 or 3, and from what I recall, the specimens I sold went for about the stated range, perhaps closer to or a bit above 400.

Why would you deem them not collectible? Us po' folks gots to collect sumtin'. [smilie=s:
