I was looking at some bullets for the .308, and ran across these. They say the bullets will stick to a magnet, which indicates that they are steel. I thought steel would be armor piercing. Will they hurt the barrel? What are your thoughts/experiences with such ammunition?

Just for the sake of clarity, you said "bullets". The link you posted is for loaded ammunition. I'm assuming you meant loaded ammo.

The jacket is steel, but it's very thin.

An AP projectile has a steel pin in the core. That's what makes it armor piercing.

Will it hurt the barrel? Well, you'll get varying opinions on that. Steel is certainly harder than brass or lead, so I imagine it would generate more wear on a barrel that a softer metal. I have shot steel jacketed bullets in one or two of my older military rifles, but that not something I do a lot of.

Thanks. In my case, that's not worth saving the money.I've got a brand new M1A, too expensive for that.

I was also looking at some berdan rounds, but. Can berdan primed rounds be drilled out and primed with real primers, or are the dimensions of the pockets different?

Nevermind, I see these are steel too.
