Hello,
My first real post (other than some purchases)–Sam's my name.
I was lucky yesterday to find two M Dies used and in perfect shape. One's short, I believe, with a 44MP expander plug. The other's longer bodied, with a 32R plug. I'm wondering if Lyman sells the expander plugs individually so my two dies can be made to serve for the various calibers I intend to cast for. And, if Lyman's not selling plugs separately, is there anyone else who is?
I've been shooting and reloading for many years, but am new to casting and the finer points of lead boolit ammunition.

Yes...you can buy expander plug only. Call and ask for sizes.

Thanks, Jon. Got these for $5 each, so I was psyched, but I don't own a .32 cal rifle!

Sam,
It's best to call Lyman because the M die expander plugs aren't listed on their web-site. They are priced at $4.25 each.

Here is some handy information:

462,
Good deal, and thanks for the excellent link. Didn't realize the plug unscrewed from the stem.

Ha! Sad, but true.
I'll have to look in to it.

A few years back I called Lyman looking for an "M" die for a wildcat I was working on. The first thing the Lyman rep said was . . . "Nope, we don't make custom dies". Once I explained I wasn't looking to have a custom die made, that I only wanted to know which die body and which plug would I need to put together to fit the length, diameter of the case he was quite helpful, had my die delivered in about three days. Since I have ordered a couple more combinations that aren't in the catalog.

I called them a few days ago to inquire about 45 and 450 sizer parts, and the lady I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helpful. I'll call again tomorrow and see if it's not too late to add a few plugs to my order. It's good to know things aren't always in the catalog, and that Lyman's willing to accommodate their customers.
Thanks to all for your help.

Would that 32R M-die work with an 8mm rifle? My Lyman catalog lists an M-die for 8x57mm as "8mm" (PN 7349018). the 32 Win Spl. M-die is designated just "32" (PN 7342073). Even though they have different part numbers, the 32R may work with some 8mm bullet diameters.

Higgins,
I've never worked with 8mm, but I can tell you the 32R plug measures .3198 at the bottom, next .3238 and .3245 at the uppermost part. My ten thousandths are approximated. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the lead there, Charlie.

Buckshot will turn a mean bespoke "M" die spud for you for a very friendly sum. :D

dromia, thanks! I ordered a bunch from Lyman yesterday for $4.25 apiece, but I know at least one (for the 6.5/55) will not be helpful, as I've got a Mauser with a worn barrel. I guess I'll be writing to Buckshot soon. And I'm all about "friendly sums!"
