i have these flat rectangular bars that measure 2 1/4 wide and 8 5/8 long , on the top it say "federated metals division" "american smelting and refining division" "toning metal" any idea what composition of what it is ? and 2 a's stamped on the bottom

i believe they could be to replenish babbit.
a high tin content.
airc toning metal was used like foundry type was/is.
look around here for the how to on specific gravity testing and on melting point.
