Any FR-8 owners use the 311299 or 314299 in their rifles? Will they feed from the magazine?

Please, no 7.62 Nato Vs. 7.62 CETME discussion.

They will in mine. If they won't; try removing the block in the mag used to shorten it to convert rifle from 8mm to 7.62 Nato (not 308)

Both feed perfectly in my FR8.

No need to remove the magazine block. With the mag block in place the mag length is 3". The nominal max OAL listed for the .308W/7.62 NATO is 2.8". With either bullet sized at .311 on the driving bands the OAL is 2.9"with the bullet seated so the front driving band hits the leade in my FR8. Unfortunately this leaves the front lube groove exposed so I just seat either bullet so the lube groove is just barely covered by the case mouth. The GC is right at the base of the neck then. Accuracy is excellent and feed sure and positive.

Either of those is an excellent choice for the FR8 in particular and in the .308W/7.62 NATO in general. If selecting the 314299 just make sure the lead will take a .301 - .302 nose. With magazine fed guns such as the M14/M1A/FN-FAL, etc. an AOL with either bullet of 2.83 generally fits and feeds from the magazines. That OAL keeps the lube grroves in the case neck and the top of the GC also. Either 311299 or 314299 is also an excellent bullet for those rifles.

Shooter-

Speaking from experience here. The boolit you want is the NOE 316299. I believe that there is a Group Buy going on right now for that design in the Active Group Buys sub forum.

I shoot that boolit in my FR-8. Sized to .314" (bore slugs .309") and seated to engrave the fat (.305") nose on chambering without worrying about an exposed lube groove. It runs through the magazine with room to spare. Alloy is 50% wheelweight and 50% pure lead, water dropped from the mold. Powder is IMR-4007ssc; and the load was worked up using data from the Hodgdon Reloading Data Center for a 200 grain jacketed bullet. I was just shy of 2,200 fps (chrono'd) with this heavy boolit out of the short FR-8 barrel; and the load was shooting way better than my meager skills.

Matt,
Thanks for the info. I will be using a Lyman 314299 water dropped, Sized .313 over 14Gr. of Unique. Not because it is better, but because it is what I have.

Mike-

I think you'll be off to a good start with a .313" Lyman 314299 and 14 grains of Unique. Just try to seat the boolit so the nose engraves or is just touching the lands when you chamber the round.

Good luck, :Fire:

I also suggest the 314299 at .312/.313 but suggest trying 28 gr H4895 with a 1/2 gr dacron filler. That in itself is a very good shooting load in most every .308W/7.62 rifle I've shot it in (numerous of them). That load runs 1720 fps out of my FR8. You can then tweak the load upwards 1/2 gr at a time until accuracy starts going south, generally arouth 1950+ fps. This will give a very good load. for most any purpose.
