Do I dare use JB Bore paste mixed with a little Kroil to lap an iron mold?
I just got a nice project mold that had some previous corrosion in the tip area so looking to "polish" and clean up the area.
I have always done the lapping of aluminum molds with Comet using the poured hexnut/bullet method.

I wouldn't be afraid to lap a mold with JB and Kroil. I've used it on bores for years, makes them shine like mirrors, I can't see it harming a mold.

Actually the JB would make a poor lapping compound but a great polishing compound.
I agree with Doc. For an iron mould, fine grit valve lapping compound is a much better choice.

I was looking more to clean it up and help the minor corrosion rather than increase diameter.
I've got my doubts that this would hurt your mold in any way :

cheese1566,
I have used JB bore paste to clean surface rust out of an iron mold before and it worked ok.
I also use it when "leementing" a Lee mold that is a little stubborn about dropping bullets.
Good luck, jmsj

In that case, it'll work. Sorry for mis-understanding.

No problem!
I wasn't that clear in my askiing.
Just wondering if it would be too abrasive. I just bought a jar and have some Kroil coming this way next week.

Mother's aluminum polish has worked very well on my iron molds for cleaning up cavities and for releasing boolits.

Sorry, I misused the term "lap" as well. I was thinking in terms of using it in the lee-menting process. For that is will work great, lapping takes lapping compound.
