anyone have one? Been thinking of getting an AR since they got so cheap and saw some that were pistols (7" or 11" barrels). was wondering if one could use a faster powder to keep the muzzle blast down, as opposed to the 25.0 gr charge of H4895 that I use in my bolt gun.

A friend of mine had a Bushmaster in the early 80's. The muzzle blast was fierce and accuracy was iffy. A 223 is not an efficient round in a short barrel. I have a 10" Tender and it doesn't get me too much more (300fps) than a Hornet in the same barrel length.

Keep in mind you are not limited to .223 in an AR pistol. Lots of other cartridges are slightly more efficient in the shorter barrels.

Been thinking about an AR pistol to go with my 5.56 and 6.8 SPC uppers, hrm, 6.8 or 300 blackout...decisions decisions.

Or then there is the 50 hushpuppy, 450, 458, way too many choices.

There are AK pistols also, but they are not modular like the AR.

I've never tried it, but always thought the 7.62x39 would make a nice deer round.

Back to the original question, you do need to use normal .223 loads if you want the gun to function properly. Do not use pistol powders for this.

As far as muzzle blast goes, 20+ grains of any powder in a short barrel is going to be blasty.
