I just recieved a lyman 450 from ebay the Pressure Screw Sub Assembly appears to be broken. It removes easily from the press. I do not have any lube to try the machine out but it only makes sense that if the plunger is pressing down that it would have to have something to pull against. It looks like someone brassed the assembly in place and the brazing has let go. Could someone take a look at my pics and confirm or deny my assessment. This is my first lubesizer so I have nothing to compare to except logic. Also could someone suggest how to repair it.

thanks jason

That is not a 450 it is a 45. The threaded rod should have a head on it, parts are available from Lyman. The same part for the 450 will fit the 45, get a new flat round thing that threads onto the rod also, I think it is called a piston.

the threaded rod goes in from the bottom and spins freely on the smooth head.

Mine is an older 450. Yours is probably the 45 mentioned in the previous post.

Parts are available from Lyman and they should fit.

The plunger with the o-rings rides the threads up and down to pressurize the Lube and the hat just rests on top and keeps the threaded rod centered and crud out.

Hope this helps. Looks like you could knock the brazed/broken part out from the top to the bottom and insert a new one and be good to go.

Braze a flat washer onto the bottom of the threaded rod and you should be good to go.

I had one as I recall which had the plug come out of the bottom of the sizer press.

Seems like I set it back in place and center punch a series of punch marks around the plug, in the casting, and was back in business.

You may need to put a relief hole in the top of your bench if you make the brazing overly thick. This will depend on your sizer. Kind of hard to tell from here.

Congratulations on your 45. I have one and it is my favorite of the three lubrisizers that I have. Check out Lyman's web site for the pressure screw assembly. I think it costs all of 11 or 12 dollars.

I broke the pressure screw on a new to me Lyman 450 earlier this year. I'm not sure if it was broken before and kluged back together, or if I just pushed it too hard from not being experienced in running the press. Either way, it was no big deal.

A new one didn't cost much, and the replacement seemed to be a solid piece of steel, not brazed/welded like the original.

You might as well stock up on spare O-rings and stuff since you're paying shipping anyway.

When you get it fixed, Enlett a 25 cent piece under the base were the worm turns on the rod, It will not leak and keep the rod from moving down., Your never be broke.
