Bought a new Sig 1911 about a month ago and just got around to firing it yesterday. I'm totally blown away with this gun. It shoots like the Gold Cup Model 70 series Colt that I used to have. It chambers everything that I throw at it. The trigger pull is crisp and probably around 5 1/2 lbs. Ten shots netted me a 94 at thirty yards. I pulled my carry Colt Officers and tried the same batch of ammo and it stove piped about 50% of the time.

Thanks. I have been drooling over a Dan Wesson 10mm for years but $ 1200.00 is out of my price range. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through lucky guys like you. Congratulations.

Shortie 1911's are notorious for malfunctions. Likely it isn't the manufacturer, but more the excessive shortness. Shorties have reduced time and space to work correctly.

A heavy magazine spring is a must to keep the slide from outrunning the magazine.

Kimber doesn't seem to be bothered with malfunctions like the Colt officers is. Quality seems to be king here.

I have been saving for a while now for the toy. A person can reach his goal with patience. Your $1200.00 toy is not out of your grasp. If things are tight one can still manage a few dollars weekly to put in an envelope toward the desired goal.
It will happen

A freind has a Sig 1911 , the 4 1/4 inch version ? its accurate and reliable !
the only issue is its a little short chambered in the lead of the rifleing area for cast bullets ! he justs seats the bullets a little deeper than normal than for his other 45 acp pistol .

I had the same issue with a kahr 45acp with cast bullets ! but i just used a finishing reamer to recut the throat area . i did not want to have seperate ammo only for that pistol .

Kimber owners most certainly do have to worry about malfunction issues in short 1911's.

They are susceptible to it as well. That their quality is better than Colt's is doubtful. Quality will not result in good reliability if the gun is short enough. Simple physics.

Recent news involved a prominent PD purchasing gussied up shortie Kimbers, and a great hulabaloo was raised when the large amount of cash paid did not result in reliable guns.

Read the following article.

If quality is King, they seem to be holding a three of clubs. No amount of pricey will help a shortie 1911. No matter who makes it.

Still feel like arguing that short Kimber 1911's don't have reliability issues?

I guess that reliability might have something to do with the overall length of the ammunition being used. The Kimbers that I have used have no problems feeding my hand loads. The Colt officers that I own is lucky to feed 50% of the time without malfunctions. Quality? There is a marked difference between the quality of the officers model and anything off the Kimber line. Maybe I just got a lemon with the officers that I own. Heck it wouldn't function properly until every spring and component had been changed. The only thing original on the top is the slide and barrel. Too bad it sat for 15+ yrs in the box without being fired. I could have gotten some warrenty off Colt for it.

Did I mention that the officers has had a polish job on the ramp? Should feed anything in my humble opinion.

I'm so impressed with the Sig right now that I'm leaning toward purchasing their short version.

Both the Para p12 and the Kahr cw are very reliable or I would not have them . the para has about 3,000 + and the Kahr has about 1,000 rounds through them.
