I'd think that a good place to start looking would be the Keith style , Lyman 454424 or a 452424.

A fine classic load in the 45 Long Colt, in your contender, would be 10.0 grs. of Unique.

In revolvers that load might get rolled back to 8.5 grs. of Unique.

If you have trouble locating a Lyman mold, I think Lee offers a mold very similar in weight to the Lyman 454424 mold and certainly workable in a SWC configuration for the 45 Long Colt. This mold would be easier to locate and a lot less $ to pony up.

Here is a link to the bullet :

The Lee should shoot just fine for you. If you read here on the forum about using Bullplate to keep the sprue plate from galling the mold blocks and the care that is needed with a Lee mold, it should make MANY thousands of bullets for you.

I like the Lee 255 RNFP, also.

Do keep in mind that your Contender barrel will automatically add some extra zip to any load you feed it, due to the longer barrel and lack of cylinder gap. So you may not need a wrist-breaker load. I almost never load heavier than 8.0 Unique/Universal or 7.0 W231.

But when I do, I load 20.0 of 4227, a magnum primer and a firm crimp. Same bullet. That load has been proven to shoot through elk.
