I scoped my Longbranch with an inexpensive Tasco 4X with an SK mount. The following load was used:

19 gr of IMR 4227 under my 214gr 314299 Lyman boolit using water Quenched WW alloy GC sized ,314.
Avg velocity 1625 fps.
Win LPP
IVI .303Brit Brass
Temp. 10C

This is the best group I have manged with the rifle. I started with two sighters then proceded to place 8 shots within 1.5" outside edge to outside edge. Five of the shots within .79" outside edge to outside edge.

I am a happy camper.

Any chance of photo's of the gun and boolits?

That duplicates what I have previously achieved with H4227 which is now the same powder.
That said, I have now changed to 2400 and won't go back.

Here you go:

The boolit is unsized without the gas check

Thanks. Best I have been able to do with the rifle to date. I use 4227 in my .44mag loadings for my Rossi and for my .303 Brit. I can get it for $26. per lb. I like 2400 as well but I can't get any readily up here for near the price of 4227.

I really like the SK mount. No drilling or tapping and it is very easy to install.

Outstanding! IMR 4227 is my powder of choice for both '06 and .303. I buy it 8 lbs at a time.

I've used AR2205/H4227 in some of my 303 Brits. I get higher velocity with AR2209/H4350 even in a very short barrel for the same apparent pressure. I havent tried 2209 with cast - only paper patched but I tried AR2208/Varget with cast and it shot very well. I didn't try it at long range.

303Guy I should clarify I use gas checks on my boolits. When I took the above picture I didn't have any boolits sized and lubed for the picture.

Robert looks pretty good. I use dacron with all my 4227 loads.

Long ago I used 4227 and 4198 for reduced power loads for a Persian Mauser Carbine. The fast powders meant less wasted energy and reduced muzzle blast.
Years later when a younger friend first began handloading for a No.5 Carbine I gave him the remainder of both powders, which were old but still good. He built up some extremely accurate loads for his No.5 using these powders, getting Sub MOA groups out to 600 yards with issue ladder sight.

I figure that these faster powders, if loads are kept within reason, give the .303 boolits and especially the standard usually undersized J-word .303 bullets enough initial acceleration to bump up and fill out the grooves with little or no blowby.

I would not want to try to duplicate original balistics using powders this fast, but somewhat reduced loads a good deal faster than the .30-30 with bullets of the same weights worked great in my 18 inch barreled Mauser and in the No.5. Plenty of punch for Deer sized game and excellent accuracy with reduced muzzle blast and less felt recoil.
