1-What is the military patch size for 30 cal?
2-Is it round or square?
3-Same questions for 45acp.

Thanks

Recommended cleaning patch sizes are relative to the thickness of the patch material. You will get your bores cleanest with patches that are big and thick enough to fit the bore with resistance.

I buy sweatpants from Goodwill and cut them to pieces then cut squares out of the pieces with a paper trimmer.. Experiment for the best size that cleans your bores and you will make your own best answer.

The sweat cloth patches I make are 2X2 inches for 45 cal and 1X2 inches for 30 cal. I use these with a slotted patch holder. Patches for a cleaning jag will need to be thinner to fit the bore and round. Cotton flannel shirt cloth will work better with a cleaning jag. A punch cutter will be needed for round patches and these can be expensive and hard to find after you determine the size you need.

I only have one punch patch cutter and it is 7/8 inch for 22 cal. jag cleaning with cotton flannel.

My cast boolit range routine is to use a dry Hoppe's Bore Snake once after each 5 shots. After 100-200 shots I clean at home using Hoppe's Elete odorless solvent per their instructions. Zero complaints.

Military (US anyway) .30 cal patch size is 2x2 and it is used for .30 - 50 cal.

I use 1 3/4" square for 30 cal with a Dewey rod and jag and I use 2 1/4" square with a Pro Shot jag and Dewey rod for 45 ACP.

My wife buys me cotton flannel by the yard at the fabric store, I use a rolling fabric cutter(like a pizza cutter) to cut patches, 1 1/2 sq. for 25 cal thru 7MM, 1 3/4 sq. for 30 cal. 2" sq. for 45
all used on jags.

The last batch of mil .30 cal patches I bought were 2 1/2" X 2 1/2". I buy yards if thin flannel at the yardage store and have been duplicating these patches for years. At times I may even double up on them if I go to a larger bore and need a tighter fit.
I have also been known to cut then in quarters for smaller calibers.
Works for me.
