For use in 1911 autos, a .230 RN and an H&G #68 flatbase. The 230 will be loaded from 800 to 850 fps. And the 200 gr will be at 850 or so.

I've got a few hundred pounds of linotype, 1000+ of smelted wheelweights and a few hundred pounds of pure lead. As well as a hardness tester.

I've already got a mess of ingots at 8, 10, and 12 brinell. I can add WW or lino to go UP.

Thanks in advance.

the acp don't usually need anything hard.
i use ww's and soft lead mixed 3-1 occasionally adding some tin if i see poor fill out.
i'm probably in the 10-11 range.

FN,

The answer to these types of questions is always: try it. Then you'll know what your barrel, from your mould and your casting techniques work in your guns.

I can tell you that for me, I can run down to pure lead out of all eight or so of my .45s as long as I size them to .453, not .452 or even .4525. With no leading, that is.

Now if the goal is pure accuracy/and no leading I prefer to mix half pure with half wheel weights. Helps to stretch my lead supply too.

Yap the 50/50 WW/pure works real good.

I've had complete satisfaction using straight WW with the 45BD boolit in my 45's.

The .453" comment is interesting. My star die is a .452" it may be worth getting a .453" and experimenting.

I am shooting two guns... mainly a Wilson , with a Springfield as my backup.

Reason I asked too I have always heard that the rifling in 1911 barrels is rather shallow...so was wondering if I needed HARD or SOFT. I ask quite a few questions here as I'm one of those guys who hates to reinvent the wheel when someone has already done it for me.

Appreciate the replies. going to try .452" loads tommorow cast from BNH 10 alloy.

Straight wheel weight with maybe a little tin for fill out is fine for 45 acp IF you have the bullet sized right. Mine shoot 452 just fine with w/w.

wwts at .452 likely to work very well. The good news is that .45 ACPs seem to have extremely
consistent groove diameters, unlike 9mms.
