Can you use some type of car polish in tumbler media to help polish brass up?

Yep, Nu-Finish. A little goes a long way and lasts quite a while.

Don't know if it's better than other brands, or if other brands are better, but it works.

Nu-finish here also. Dilute a capful of Nu-finish with a capful of mineral spirits and sprinkle over some fresh, UNTREATED cob or walnut media while you mix it with your other hand. Run the tumbler for a half-hour with no brass in it, then dump your previously cleaned brass in and let it go another half-hour or so. Next time you use the media, freshen it with about half as much polish/mineral spirits, and the time after that just use a capful of mineral spirits to refresh the wax, assuming days or weeks between sessions where the stuff gets a chance to dry out. Use common sense here, don't overdo the liquid addition or you'll get media packed in your cases like concrete. If the media is sticking to itself and clumping with no brass present, it's too wet.
