I loaded some 8mm karabiner 225gr for my k98 and seated the bullet to top grove and when I chambered it it stuck in the lands showing the rifleing marks.will this lee mold work for the k98? if I just seat it real deep in case? or should I buy a different mold lighter in weight?=any suggestions on re sizeing 30/06 to 8mm cases

I haven't actually done it. I a bit hesitant to form any without marking them in some way, so even though I probly have 3000 30-06 cases, I went ahead and bought 100 rds. of 8mm headstamped brass. But I am not going to shoot alot of 8mm.

As far as your load goes, I will defer to those many here who rare knowledgeable about that particular combination. What I would do is yes, seat the boolit deeper, but back off the powder charge and try a few.

Don,
There was a thread here about re sizeing 30-06 to 8mm last month, check around 3-25-2011. Look at the vids on Utube before you start.

I bought an unfired M-48 Yugo 8mm. It's never had anything but cast through it. 99% of them have been the Karibiner. I seat most stuff so that the nose in in fairly firm contact with the leade by simply chambering a cartridge and adjusting the seater till I get the contact I want. I like enough so that the boolits alignment is assured but the boolit isn't pulled from the case or anything like that. In my 48 IIRC that requires me seating with the case mouth just over the very front band infront of the crimp groove area. I use crimp on GC's and have never had an issue with the base extending below the neck in any cartridge, BUT- it's not my chosen way of doing things.

My advice would be try seating them lower and see if you are comfortable with how things end up. If not you can pursue a different mould or a nose sizing die.

My 8mm Kar mould drops .329-.330 boolits and I'm using it in M95 Steyr.

Works much better than Lee .329 ,possibly because it's heavier and it has many more grease grooves.

Keep in mind that this boolit was designed with worn military throats in mind. With a mint barrel you may have the issues you describe. I like this boolit in my 8x57 but then I prefer to seat right at or into the lands.

i use that boolit in a 88 turk, it has a well worn throat, so i can seat it out a little. can't member how far right now. but at 50yds. it is very impressive! i love that boolit. i do have a k98, but i've yet to use this boolit in it. :cbpour:

I use the NEI 205 gr RN it comes out to 230+ gr. Don't have no problems seat it for my G98/40s or my K98.
