Homemade shoot n' see targets

I think that I've figured out a good way to make these. I started with a sheet of cheap printer photo paper, when I buy printer ink the package includes 150 sheets. I gave the shiny side a coat of Johnson paste wax, then let it dry. Then I spray painted the paper with flat black paint. I shot one today with a .22 out in the garage and it left a nice white dot where the bullet hit. Now I have to make a stencil so that I can spray paint an orange bullseye on top of the black. If nothing else I can put a brightly colored sticker dot to aim at. The true test will be with the 30-30 at the range, but this looks really promising.

That's a great idea! I wonder if it would work the same way with those wax-coasted paper plates. It would lower the cost per target as well, I would think. That photo paper can be kinda pricey!

I did this a lot for 300 yd Hipower.
go to Michaels art store. buy a big piece of DayGlo paper, yellow, or orange, something bright. Spray glue your wifes wax paper on top of it, like a sandwhich. Now, buy some flat black spray paint at Lowe's or Home Depot and spray it on thick. You get the idea. Works like a champ!
You can always refresh your hits with some of the same black spray.
I am sure it will work for 25 yds or less! Center 'em up!

Here's a pic. Because of the camera's flash you can see the pattern how the JPW dried. In the sunlight it's just flat black. I think that white spot would easily be visible. That dayglo paper that SoldierBilly1 mentioned also has a hard finish like photo paper so the wax would dry on the surface. And it comes in sheets that are 2' by3' that would be good for sighting in, or patterning a shotgun.

If I had the money to buy a spotting scope that would see .30 caliber holes in standard targets at 300 yards, I wouldn't need the hi-viz targets either!

I think this is a super idea, as always a very economical and creative approach to problem solving. Let's hope Birchwood-Casey doesn't find us and sue us for patent infringement along with everybody else they're suing currently. [smilie=1:
