My very first cast and loaded pistol/rifle boolits. Lee 440 grain gas checked. Thanks for the lubing tips guys it cam in handy. Fired a handful already and they didn't kick in my H and R handi rifle like I thought they would. Didn't see any leading so far. I'm very very pleased. Sure beats paying for the costly factory ammo.

Remember H110 is exactly the same as Winchester 296, sometimes one is cheaper.

I usually use WC820 Milsurp powder in my .500, still got about 6 lbs left. The batch I got gets 11% more velocity than an equal weight of H110 according to the supplier and that has been right.

Good looking castloads. I don't see a crimp. The NEF is a lot of fun in that caliber.

I 'didn't crimp it to hard on the top ring. now when I load for my co-worker (his 500 pistol) using sierra 400 grainers I use a pretty heavy crimp or the bullets will walk out from the recoil.
Went to Cabelas today and out of curiosity looked for a weaver base and rings for it with no luck. So I went to there bargain corral and snooped around and what do I find brand new discontinued TALLEY one piece rings and base for the Handi Rifle for 30.00 normally 60.00 in the basket they went.

Just got my mold-dies and new brass for the 500, am surprised the lee mold has only one lube grove, is it nessasary to gas check this bullet and what hardness are you casting this bullet at?

To get accuracy above low velocity levels with soft alloys you will need the gas checks installed.

#2 alloy, BHN 14-15 and gas checks will get you to good hunting velocities. There are non gas check boolit molds available for the .500. RCBS offers a Plain Base bullet mold 50-340-SWC P/N 082087 and Lee R.E.A.L 50 cal muzzle loading bullets are available in 250 gr and 320 gr.

The Lee bullets must be sized as they are about .514". I tumble lube before and after I size them to .501" and have great accuracy with the 250 gr. R.E.A.L. I use a ballistic filler, BPI Original and my pet load pushes the 250 gr to 1885 fps with H110 or WC820 with the BPI filler acting as an effective gas check on the non gas check boolits.

Thanks thats Gunner. His AKC name is Moore's Runnin and Gunnin. He is 1 of 2 pure breed beagle hounds I bunny hunt with. Rascal (Moore's Ridge runnin Rascal)is the other. There my buddies. My other dog is a beagle/terrier mix Bitsy (Jimmys Little Bacon Bits) Usually where ever I go the boys go with. I can shoot high power rifles and they will just sleep under the truck and not care. Bitsy will shake like a leaf and try to dig to china so she stays home and keep the couch warm. Here is a couple pics of them at our hunting camp in WV Rascal out on porch and gunner and bitsy sleeping
