I went to a bus garage and got two coffee cans of used WW's. When I got home I started going thru them. Out of about 30 pounds of WW's, 25 pounds of them are zinkers !! Oh my ... they are the large truck size WW's. It wasn't a very good haul for regular WW's. I tested them with a pair of wire cutters. If the tips would dig in easily when squeezed, they are lead. If they are hard and don't cut or dent, they are zinkers. All the zinkers have a 'Z' on them. The big ones says 17Z. Sigh ....

Save them up and cast ingots (in a separate pan if possible). You might be able to sell them in the S&S forum. Some people here use zinc for cannonballs.

I also saw a thread where someone was shooting pure zinc boolits. One of these days, it may be all we have left...

I picked up a 60# pail of WW's last week. After smelting I had 17# of zinc and steel sitting on the floor. The trouble is, the tire shops keep thinking these pails are full of useable lead ww's and they won't drop the price. I now visit auto wreckers, old cars, old ww's.

I've given up on getting WW's anymore, now I just buy stuff off Craigslist. Bought 500 lbs of sailboat keel yesterday. Not free, but it was already cut up and ready for the alloying pot. When she has it captaint has nice range lead ingots here on this site too. The FREE days are over for me, but still way better than buying store bought.
