Now that we are all waiting for our NOE 225107 37Gr. hornet moulds to arrive, what is the load that you are going to try first?

For the plain base I am planning on a light charge of Bullseye in the Hornet or 223 Rem. Working on loads with BE and the 225415 right now to get started.

GC version I am thinking 4227 for some reason along with 2400.

Ordered a new barrel for a Savage rifle I picked up a few weeks ago with a stock 1-9 twist. Going to see how ER Shaw barrels stack up. This one is a 1-14 twist kit job from midway. Couldn't swing a Mcgowen barrel this time.

I experimented with an old Lyman 225107 years ago in three different Hornets, an R2 Lovell, .218 Bee, and a K-Hornet. That was the one bullet design I could never get to give better than mediocre accuracy in any of them- at any velocity, any powder, any alloy, period. All of those rifles gave stunning accuracy with jacketed or lead, or both. It was probably the only mold I ever owned that I grew to hate! Funny thing, I kept it longer than most molds, in an effort to finally make it work. Finally I gave up on it. I've often wondered why, especially in light of others getting good results.

I've also been using the 225107 for some time. Like gnoahhh, I've had some tribulations with it. It has a very short bearing surface and is not conducive to HV even with 16" twist barrels. I find it best at 1400 - 1500 fps in 16" twists using Bullseye. Very carefull attention must be payed to case sizing to keep the short stubby bullet aligned. I've also found an alloy of 70/30 linotype/lead to be a very good alloy for this and other .22 cal cast bullets. I only seat the GCs and do not sized the 225107s leaving them at .225 - .226. I also use fire formed cases and only NS the the bullet seating depth with a Redding Bushing die giving .002 neck tension. The 225107s are seated to a depth that the case mouth just covers the lube groove.

The 225438 is a much better bullet in 16" twists and 225462 is even better in 14" and quicker twist Hornets, other .22 CFs too.
