model 58 loads and sizing

hi guys anyone loading for the ols S&W model 58 ??
if so what are you using and what are you sizing your lead bullets to ??

I size to .410. 8.5 grains of Unique should be a good load to start. 2400 is another good choice but I don't recall the load. I would treat it like an older model 29 in that I wouldn't try Ruger level loads in it. I think my RCBS mold drops around 215 grains.

You should size to YOUR throat diameter or throat diam +.001", assuming that
the throat is slightly larger than barrel groove diameter, as it should be.

Have been loading for 58s since the 1970s. Have had about 7 of them andonly two didn't shoot to POA at 20 yards.

8.0 grains of Unique will run a 210 grain bullet at 950 fps which is is about the same as the original lead Police Load.

Most of my shooting over the last 5 years has been with Berry's plated 210 grain bullets as to shoot indoors I have to use jacketed bullets.

When I do shoot cast they are sized .410.

Any cast bullet in the 210-240 grain range will hit at or just above POA in most cases...
