Had some success today with my RCBS 270 SAA mold. Now the question I have and to see if I'm doing this right is this. From experience are you applying the aluminum tape to only one side of the block or both. The article I saw showed one side and that's what I did. The thickness is not marked on the roll so I'm not sure how thick it is. I'm going to see if I can measure it. My 429421 and 250K molds are way undersized for what I need. I will trial and error by adding more tape. With the one side boolits still look very good with no finning. Today I was casting with a 50/50 ww pb alloy. Thanks!

try one side, then if still too small, try both sides...

if still too small, then I dunno.... has anyone tried 3??

or will lapping be required?

Not long after I first started casting, as part of an experiment, it took two plys of tape to each side of a Lyman 429421 to increase its size by .002", to .433"

In another early beagling experiment, I was able to get a Lee 452-255 to drop at .457" -- an increase of .003" from new -- however, I can't remember the number of layers required.

There are also different thicknesses of tape. I got some here that is .004 thick. It actually feels too thick. I need to find some thinner stuff.

You sound like you don't have a micrometer. Now is a good time to get one. Then you can measure the tape and the boolits.

The tape I picked up measures .003. As mentioned above the first session showed promise and it looks like the 270-saa mold may be fine with one strip of tape. I added another and will try it. I have 4 molds ready to go but will have to wait a few more days to try. Work has messed up my plans again! Thanks for the replies.
