I just got a Ruger Security Six. Currently using the Lee 158 RF. Work ok but thinking about a swc mold. Does anybody know if the lyman 358429 will fit in the security six when loaded in 357 cases?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's too long when crimped in the crimp groove. I taper crimp mine on the front drive band for my GP 100, they are too long crimped in the groove. They work just fine that way but if you want to crimp in the crimp groove you need another bullet.

Just what he said above in my Security Six. I think the one I got to replace that might have been a 358477 which works just fine.

Whow back!!!
Doesn't sound right. I'm gonna check with MY Ruger Security 6. BRB

"Course my Six is over 30 years old ,so maybe it's stretched. You decide.
I can run the 357429 from 3 different molds, ALL crimped in the cannelure, and have plenty of room to spin the cylinder. (.357 cases)
As a matter of fact I can seat the Thompson 357158 in the lower cannelure in a 357 case and it will still turn freely, but IT IS close.

Naturally neither will work in a S&W N frame.

If memory serves, the 429 fit fine in my Speed Six 357, but that was 20 some years back.

Just measured my #358429. From very top of crimp grove to nose is .375”. This is a brand new Lyman. My Clone by NOE measures .010” less at .365”. So you’re looking at a C.O.L. of around 1.675 which is over the max length for 357. In Lyman’s book they list a C.O.L. of 1.553”. This is crimped over the front band. They use the short load to develop pressure so someone doesn’t use the long length data in a short col load.

Btw my new Lyman mold cast beautiful bullets that measure .356”. So it’s going to Lyman. I’ve been sending back about one in five moulds.

The Lyman bullet is light of 170 but then it’s also thin. NOE mould cast 177 grains and is IIRC about a .360” diameter.
