Got out to Air Capitol Gun club and shot my first silhouette match of the year. The wind was gusting up to 35mph and it made shooting standing interesting to say the least. I shot field pistol open sights with my Dan Wesson in .41 mag. I put on a set of millet rear sights on it last year and am shooting a load that I have not gotten sight settings for. I still managed a 14. Not great, but not bad considering the conditions. I also shot my scoped .22 hornet Contender. I have never shot a scoped standing gun in competition and managed a 24. The hornet is a hoot to shoot. Costs me less to shoot it that my .22 rimfires and has enough more umph to make it fun.

Hey 7br,
What load and bullet are you shooting with the hornet?
I built up a 22hornet contender over the winter and took it to the first match this year and did, um, well not as well as I had hoped.

I have been running the RCBS 55 over 8.5 IMR 4227 with WSR primers and BRP 225-47 over 9 IMR 4227 with WSR primers.

Thanks in advance,

Adam

P.S. I am not trying to thread jack yet.

RCBS 22-55, gator gas checks. Thomson Blue angle lube. 4.3gr of WW231, Rem 7 1/2primer. Can't remember if cases were WW or Rem. I had to beagle the mold to get it up to diameter.

Everybody seems to love the Rem 7 1/2 primer, but every manual I have says to use WSR. Eh. I will give it a try. Thank you 7br.

You might put a mike on your bullets and check diameter.

The most recommended primer in the Hornet, with cast, is a small pistol primer. I use CCI 500's in mine. With a case this small it doesn't require much primer force to push the cast boolit out of the case before powder combustion takes place.

That is what everyone says. Next time my brass is empty I will try some small pistol primers.

How far do you shoot in this silhouette stuffs?

I should head out there some day soon to see how things go.

Field pistol you shoot as far as 100 meters. Big bore you shoot out to 200 meters. Small bore is 100 yards.
