I recently bought a box of lead bullets that he go in a bulk buy.. got it today and looked through it and seen that some of the bullets have like a copper bottom.. (new to casting) Is this going to mess up my lead like zinc? any special way i should melt them down? thank

The copper bottoms are gas checks. They help reduce leading and help you achieve higher velocities. The will just float to the top of your lead if you melt the lead bullets and you can skim them off.

Its just a copper gas check melt'em down and skim off the dross and gas checks.

This made me smile. I am glad you asked. I still ask a lot of questions.

Occaisionally I will screw up a GC'd 44 boolit. Back into the casting or smelting pot it goes.

Hey, why are you melting them down instead of shooting 'em?

Save the gas checks they can be reco,d someone will use them they are the most expensive of the expendable components. Gerry. [ I know it,s being cheap]

Not at all Gerry; it's being wise. Cheap is shooting without eyes/ears to save money - I've seen it.

I scrape up all of my tiny drips of lead and back in the pot they go. I pick up wheel weights in parking lots. I am about to start digging "mining for lead" I am very cheap but this way I can afford to shoot as much as I want. Keep up the good work.
