My first rifle in 1963 was Rem 514. I paid $15 for the gun and my mom helped me out with a sling that ended up costing $20 by the time we were done at the gunsmiths shop. So I now had a $35 dollar $15 dollar rifle

When I was 18 (1968) I traded the gun in at a local shop for a ES340B Mauser. I got $15 for my Remington and aded another $35 to get the Mauser. I still have the Mauser and I will be burried with it.

Time passed.........

I was walking thru a gunshow in town around 1985, and there on the bench infront of me was my Remington. I am certain it is the exact same gun as it is the only Remington 514 I have ever seen with a sling. I bought it back for $15! HA!

It has been my goto garage gun for the last 35 years. If you break into my house or try to rape my wife during the day while I am in my shop, I will probably be shooting you with this gun. Just had it out today testing some CCI CB Longs. The striker makes more noise than the cartridge going off.

Some things stand the test of time. I just wish I hadn't done an ametuer bolt alteration before I knew what I was doing. Maybe I'll redo it some day. The sling is still on there and it's still good. It still shoots exactly where I sighted it in 1963!
