You may be able to find a good market for those boolits. I would hate to see them just melted down. Just my opinion though.

I had a bunch I dug up at Port Hudson, years ago, and had no trouble selling them at gun shows for a buck apiece.

Rememer to add the word "vintage" or "historical" to any possible sales pitch, sell them to someone who will value them more than their weight, and of course keep a handfull in a coffee can somewhere just for the principle of the thing.

BTW, your son didn't get arrested for possession of weapons or some such bunk for taking those to school, did he? Stranger things have happened.

I thought about this as What if I sort of thing. I say they should be sold as collectors.

93 years old, wow that warms my heart. I hope you did something nice for him. (I bet you did)
Perhaps just the mood I am in today. I would have spent the day with him, but that's just me
Off topic again.

If you know WHERE the civial war bullets were recovered from that may add a bit of authenticity to them to help sell them.

I bet those boolits are worth more than you think. Research the value online before you do anything with them. He sure gave you a lot of stuff!

Thank you for not melting those down.

Your propane would do the world a much greater service by melting all the pewter dragnos, unicorns, care bears and Harry Potter figurines.

Now THOSE, are a waste of good metal!:happy dance:

I think I'll call my Grandpa today.

You have some rare Spencers that I have seen sell for $10 each

I would happily pay you $2 each for some of the whole, unexpanded bullets. History treasures there.

NO NO NO, do not melt them down. You would be destroying some American history. I personally would keep them for myself, if I were you. If you insist on selling them, I`ll bet you could sell them all to Cast Boolits members.....dale

One other thing to look for is teeth marks. Some got chewed on because there was no gum. Makes them a little more interesting ($) in a weird way.

I heard once that the chewed ones were from hospital/chop,chop tents.
