Which semi-autos do you like? Since the 41 is a bit less popular than the 38/ 357s, 44s and 45s. I figure that most, like myself, would prefer a semi that's a bit out of the mainstream as well. Always rooting for the underdog/ under appreciated - My favorite centerfire pistol is a Kimber Stainless Target II in 10mm, but also have a minty S&W 1076 in 10mm as well. Both shoot better than I can hold them. At one point I owned a Colt Mid Range - a 1911 NM in 38 Spl, regular caliber but not a popular platform for it, I was offered a crazy amount of money for it so I let it go. Am I alone in the offbeat appreciation, crosses over from revolvers to autos?

My duty gun for most of my 26 year career was a S&W Model 57 with a 6" barrel. I never felt the need for anything else while carrying it, except for a shotgun and rifle, since I worked the boondocks.

In semi-auto handguns, I like the 357 Sig, 10mm, .38 Super and 9x23 Winchester. Even though I load for 31 different calibers, I would have to say that those are my favorites, with the 9x25 Dillon coming in after them. I don't shoot them as much as some other calibers, due mostly to some match shooting, but I get more enjoyment out of them.

Hope this helps.

Desert Eagle in 41 Auto Mag, or how about in 44 Auto Mag?

Since I'm a .41 mag nut, I'm always on the lookout for a DE in .41. I did have a couple of Coonans in .357 mag and would love to see them come out with that in .41 since they started production again this year.

I've got a g20 and a hi-power with a 41 AE conversion. I really prefer to carry the Browning, but shoot the g20 better.

41AE?

You mean I'm not the only one? I have a Tanfolio in 9mm/41AE combo. Also had the IPSC ported version until a buddy talked me out of it. Also re-cut three four cavity Lyman moulds to drop a 165 grain TCBB boolit. Was only supposed to be two, but the machine operator was on auto pilot. Then the 40 S&W came along and killed the 41AE. The 165 makes a nice light weight boolit for the 41 Mag. too.

The only problem is that the Tanfolio's throw the brass about 40 feet and the brass has become scarce and expensive.

I also have a Tanfoglio in 9mm/.41 AE, and probably the largest cache of factory loaded .41 AE ammunition and virgin primed brass in the U.S. I've been selling it off slowly as I needed funds for some other projects.

Quality Cartridge is making the brass, but it's over $1.00 per round, and they only make it when they have an order, since there is so much waste when cutting the rebated rim. They told me it makes them weep when they turn $6.24 a pound brass into $2.00 a pound scrap when they make that brass.

Hope this helps.

I got one of the .41 Mag Desert Eagles when they were on clearance at CDNN for $699. I sent it to Ford's and had it black chromed. This post is definitely worthy of a picture. I will try to get outside tomorrow and take one.

I am a big Desert Eagle fan. Like cast boolits they get an undeserved bad reputation sometimes. My first rule is only the MK I or MK VII platform for everything up to .44 caliber. The bore centerline is closer to the magazine and they function so much better. They are not a good beginner gun.

Good question...I am a huge 41 magnum fan (I carry a Model 58 at work a good bit of the time and I own a Ruger RH)....
My favorite self loaders are Glock Model 38 and 39....in 45 GAP...

I carry a Ruger blackhawk in 41mag when in the woods. It's loaded with a 270gr homemade jacketed bullet @ 1200fps to discourage brown bear if needed. I have two autos that are hard to pick between for favorite. One is a MKI T Ruger 22 with scope and the other is a Ballister Molina in 45acp. I know the autos are just normal guns but both are very effective for the purposes I use them.

I have a Ruger NM flattop in .41 magnum that I like. I have been looking at Smith and Wesson 1066's on the internet. Anyone have one? I fired my pastors 1076 many years ago and liked it, but only with under-powered factory ammo. Just curious, what do the Desert Eagle .41 magnums do to the brass? Mangle it, or does it come out in pretty good shape? I like my Glock in .357 Sig, but the brass just about dissapears when fired with full power ammunition.

I had (and still have) 10mm pistols LONG BEFORE getting onto the 41 Magnum bandwagon (c. 1988 vs. 2003). The road less traveled has some fine scenery, indeed.

I like my D.E. in 41 mag. It gets a little finiky with certain powders and I worked on the extractor a little so it doesn't chew up the rim anymore. The big thing with these pistols are the magazines they have to be made well to work in this one.

I got on the 10mm bandwagon around the same time - late 80's before the 40 S&W was even marketed. I was given 5 boxes of 41 mag brass around the same time and a few years later with some spare change, I scored a S&W 657 4 in version. I think it's one of 4 or 5 guns that I wound up with brass first and the rifle/pistol/revovler later. I'll admit, I had long forgotten about the 41AE and that the Desert Eagle's were made in 41. I knew I wasn't alone enjoying the less popular - Thanks Bill L

I own two 41s. One is a 6 inch and the other is a 3 inch. Both are 657s and the 3inch is magna ported.
The 3 inch is my favorite pistol and I shoot 220 grain boolits with 8.5 grains of unique.
If I am not shooting a revolver then I would say my semi-auto favorite gun is my Walther P22.
I mean lets face it, kinda had to compare a semi to a wheel gun in 41
I do own several semi's (g23,g21,g30,1911,witness 45,makarov x 4, ruger mkiii, and lots more I can't remember without my list)

I've been looking at the 41 mag for quite some time and finally came across this no dash 57 in nickle a month or so ago. It has the best trigger of any pistol I own . It's just a great middle magnum cartridge.
I do remember seeing advertisement in the late 80's for the for the Israeli 9mm/41 AE combo's but never handled one.

I think it's interesting that the subject of the .41 Action Express has come up several times in this thread. Before anyone jumps in and buys the conversion from CDNN at $49.99, you need to be aware that a box of 50 rounds of current production .41 AE unprimed brass from Quality Cartridge costs $58.97, plus shipping. http://www.qual-cart.com/catalog.pdf They have also discontinued offering loaded ammunition in all calibers.

The last .41 AE factory loaded ammunition I sold was for $80.00 per box....... And that was through a friend who specializes in obsolete ammunition, so I don't know what he charged his customer.

Hope this helps.

I purchased a .41 Ruger RH several months ago. Boy did I get a shock when I looked for ammo. Several places wanted $68. a box of 50 and $27.85 for 20 rnd box.
Don't look as if it will ever shoot factory ammo.
That's just half the price of BT's swage dies, and I have buckets of range lead and brass to make boolits with. Now finding .41 brass is a challenge.

Have a Freedom Arms Model 83 in 41 Mag. Just shot 50 rounds of 210 Cast over 19 Grains of 2400. In that 50 + oz five gun the recoil was like a 357. My Semi Auto is a 229 Sig. Have both the 357 Sig and the 40 S7W barrels.

Starline makes .41 mag brass and it's good. My blackhawk gets cast while the desert eagle gets jacketed. Both shoot well, a great midbore.

Another .41 Mag devotee here...but I fear the rest of my pistol lust is pretty mainstream.

No need for any other .41/10mm that I haven't been able to resist. Other than maybe a FA M-97 in .41 mag...I'd like one of those.

Have a 4" M-58, as well as a pair of M-657's a 4" and a 6". The 4" is NIB the six gets shot.

Also have one of the Perf Center Light Weight Hunters in .41 mag. Yes I'm a bit of a S&W fan.
