I has been a great deer season so far for my family and I, not the biggest deer in the world but we have had a riot hunting with each other.

This is my dads 3 pointer, he shot it out of my blind in the U.P., 90 yard shot through a window in the brush just big enough to slip a 150gr Ballistic tip in to his neck.

My first buck, an 8 pointer. Shot him over a mock scrape at less then 10 yards, blew the arrow through his neck.

This is my second buck a 6 pointer I got 2 weeks before rifle season. He came into the feed, I was debating if I should take him and I opted to, 10 yard shot blew the arrow through his chest 1" above his heart, he fell less then 30 yards from my tree stand, same stand as buck above.

And finally my older brothers first ever bow kill. He thought it was bigger when he shot, he also thought it was closer then it was ended up being a 25 yard shot. He took some crap from my dad and I, but hey it is on the pole. He actually shot it from the stand I took my 6 and 8 from. Deer ran 200 yards and dropped in a field. Only thing is we didnt find it until the next day and the coyotes ate its hind quarters up pretty good. I did the best I could when I butchered it but didnt get much meat. But the up side is I have a new bow hunting partner, this was his first season hunting bow and the first deer he drew on, he is shooting my fishing bow, I upped the poundage to about 53 pounds and threw a red dot sight on it.

There they are, I am gunna try to get a doe with my muzzleloader this week, and we will have enough meat in the freezer to last until next deer season.

Bowhunting success is alittle sweeter than the gun kills, I think. Definitely more skill is required. A question though...... the photo of the 6 pt in the back of the truck.....most folks do the field dressing...well...in the field. Am I correct in that deer is not field dressed? I surmise the weather is fairly warm by the way you are dressed. I always try to cool that meat as quickly as possible. How do you guys do it?

\Vly,
I normally gut them out in the back field before bringing them up front to hang in the barn, but I had my mom with me, she wanted to see the buck before having to go somewhere, so while I was dropping her back off at the house they took a couple of pics. It was the same deal with the 8 point, except I had my dad with me to load him in the truck with his guts still in him.

There is a certain spot in our back field we always gut them at dont know why it is that spot just has always been there, and every deer taken on the property gets hauled there to be field dressed.

When the temps are in the 50's I hang them for a few days and then butcher them. When it is so cold that the deer freeze soild I get at them before the freeze, same as when it gets above 60 they get butchered right away.

I know "season" your meat but the deer we get on the property have been eating corn and soy bean all summer no real reason to season them., but when I cook it in my dorm room for supper my roomates can tell the difference between deer meat and beef.

I agree with you that bow hunting is a sweeter way of getting your bucks then with a rifle. I am seriously thinking about hanging my high powered rifles and sticking to bow, muzzleloader, and I thinkin next year I will buy a hand cannon to take a field instead of my rifles.

Yup, very nice indeed. I'm originally from Wisconsin. I miss the big midwestern whitetails, but you can keep the snow.
