I cast and loaded some of these in a rushed, unprepared attempt last week. I had to hone out a .308 Lee push through die to size .3095, and I tumble lubed with Recluse's Alox/JPW recipe.

I loaded them up with 10.5 grs. H110 at the OAL of 1.680. I took 10 rds. to the range and none would fire. I took them back and used a kinetic puller to extend the OAL a bit and got 1 to go boom! It cycled the gun (AMT Automag III) and loaded the next round.

I am going to have to extend my OAL a bit to get headspace reduced. I checked the brass (Remington) vs. my miltary brass, and the length is the same. I think it is because of the step in the nose, and maybe extra headspace in the gun, but I've never had a problem with FMJ's. Fortunately, I have quite a bit of magazine length left.

I'm really looking forward to getting this one worked out. I will use my barrel as a gage when I load the next one's.

The good news: no leading, on the one shot! :-))

Just goes to show, things don't always go as planned.

Anybody else got a report?

Does that cartridge not headspace on the casemouth?
