I have that mould -- a single cavity -- and, yes, the new number is 311291. Cast of air-cooled wheel weights and depending on how I hold my tongue, boolits measure in the .312" to .313" range. Initially, I bought it for my .30-30 Model 94, but have since discovered that the '03-A3 is deeply in love with it. An upcoming project is to try it in the K-31s.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the mould's overall quality. Mine is such that it takes a very close examination to discern the part line.

You'll probably find the older model to be right on the money in size.

Yes it is the original version and duplicate of 311291. Back in the day before Lyman started some of their antics, molds were made to cast pretty close to the correct size. Then the big "L" figured out that they had to make their cutting cherries last so they started making them oversize to start with so that they would last longer. The molds then started appearing in rediculously large sizes. A 311291 would cast at .313-.315 and one had to size it down in 2 stages. Not only 30 cal. molds but all molds. Lyman became quickly nicknamed, "the king of Oversize". To get around this to some degree Lyman began offering "U" or undersize versions; those were usually the right size to begin with. Now they have gone to the other end of the spectrum and their molds are undersize to start with. They probably start with a correct size cherry and run it longer until it produces undersized molds. To get around this we are fed the horsepoop that goes, "use Lyman #2 alloy and the molds will cast at the desired size". How cute! But to answer your original question; your mold is the correct size 308291(311291) and you are lucky to have found one. Treat it well.LLS

i do believe i like the older ideal molds rather than the "newer"lyman molds.
